Greening with meaning

Shamrock Love wants to celebrate our community and shine a light on all the great work that's happening around the world. In 2021, we'll plant the first seeds of Shamrock Love by fundraising for 3 charities previously supported by the 3 Legged Charity Race.

Between 2007 and 2020, the 3 Legged Charity Race donated over €69,500 to various children’s charities. Each year, money was given to 3 charities— one charity for each leaf of the shamrock and one charity for each leg of the 3 legged race.

Laura Lynn Children's Hospice

Laura Lynn is Ireland's only children's hospice. They provide palliative care and support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. Since 2015, the Race has donated over ~€9,680 to Laura Lynn Children's Hospice.

LauraLynn supports families throughout the care of their child. Donations from organizations like ours enable the LauraLynn team to take the time to really get to know the family and fully understand their needs and wishes.

“The 3 Legged Charity Race has been supporting us since 2015, which is just fantastic. We aim to have loyal donors like Siobhan and her team and rely on this to help our families.“

LauraLynn provides free care and support to approximately 374 families of children with life-limiting conditions. Care can be delivered in their hospice in Dublin, at the hospital, in the community, or the family home. Support from organisations like Shamrock Love is much needed and appreciated.

“Families from all across Ireland can access vital respite support, giving them the chance to recharge their batteries and regroup in a calm, fun, and welcoming environment. Thank you for making that happen.”

WHO IS CCAFO?

Established in 2006, CCAFO (Cambodian Children's Advocacy Foundation Organisation) is a Cambodian NGO working to address the root causes of rural poverty through early-childhood education, community development programs, and economic assistance.

Back in 2009, Shamrock Love founder Siobhán Kelleher-Petersen was introduced to CCAFO through the Irish community in Cambodia.

This introduction led to a special partnership that has spanned more than 10 years.

Making a difference

Since 2009, the 3 Legged Charity Race has donated about €19,200 to CCAFO.

This money was used to support CCAFO’s village-based preschool program and English language projects.

"In May 2016, a classroom was built at the CCAFO English Language Center in Kampong Speu Province. The construction was made possible by friends at the St. Patrick’s Day 3 Legged Charity Race in Copenhagen, Denmark."

Sometimes a little goes a long way

In 2020, the 3 Legged Charity Race sent about €670 to CCAFO in Cambodia.

CCAFO used part of this money to buy 637 bars of soap which were then distributed to 19 villages-based preschools. The rest was used to develop Tipitap handwashing tools.

"This is excellent news. We will use this donation to buy soaps and distribute them to our students so they can clean their hands at homes and help prevent the spread of Coronavirus.”

Danske Hospitalsklovne

The Danish Hospital Clowns visit children in Danish hospitals and institutions, creating unforgettable moments full of play and smiles. Since 2012 the 3 Legged Charity Race has donated over ~€16,500 to the hospital clowns.

The hospital clowns meet and recognize the child wherever they are and create a safe friendly space for both fun and seriousness. For many children, the hospital clown becomes a safe hand to hold when life in the hospital hurts.

"With the race's support, we've been able to spread happiness and joy and give strength and courage to hospitalized children so that they can better cope with their treatment and illness. We are very grateful for the valuable support from the 3 Legged Charity Race as we are completely dependent on contributions like this to be able to be there for the children. Thanks for making our work possible.”
